Friday 5: Teething Symptoms

Teething has been a long, hard battle at our house.  And it still is going nowhere.  Remember when we first showed those white bumps at 2 months?  Well, those two white bumps are STILL white bumps.  Just the symptoms have gotten worse.  Hopefully we'll cut a tooth soon.  However, I thought I'd share a bit of what I've learned with you.

1)  White bumps on the gums

This is kind of a no brainer.  If you can see the teeth, there are teeth.  HOWEVER, I have learned that this does NOT mean that they are necessarily coming in any time soon.  It has been 3 months.

2)  Fussiness

No, he's not fussy ALL the time.

Now, I don't know how much to give credit to this.  Has Robby been fussy?  Sure, but babies are fussy.  So, who knows.  On to the more concrete things.

3)  The Teething Rash

Isn't this lovely?  Apparently, baby spit gets more acidic when it is time to cut a tooth.  Therefore, at night, when they drool and lay in it, it gets all over their face and causes them to break out in a most unpleasant manner.

4)  Excessive Drooling

The drool is MUCH more plentiful, so it soaks the sheets and makes it virtually impossible to avoid planting one's lovely, smooth, chubby cheek directly into the mess.  Bibs become daily attire.

5)  Green Diarrhea

Aren't you glad I don't have a picture?  Because your child is swallowing so much drool, their digestion gets thrown off.  Hence, the green diarrhea.  You also may notice diaper rash, yet again, due to the acidic nature.

Bonus #6) Dropping the latch vs. Chewing on things

Harper is demonstrating the chewing.  No, thank goodness she's not teething.  ;)

It hurts to eat!  The baby will start and stop because he won't want to put pressure on his gums.  And then get upset because he's hungry.  Vicious cycle here.  At the same time, he always is shoving things in his mouth to chew on.  Masochistic little man.  It's like touching a bruise to see if it still hurts.

Others:
- Low grade fever
- Rubbing cheeks and ears

What am I grateful for?  I am EXTREMELY grateful that we do not have to teeth as adults.  That'd be PMS on steroids.

Friday 5: Revealing Anecdotes of the Week

I suppose that certain moments let your true colors shine through.  Here are a few recent ones:

1)  On Wednesday we had visitors in our office.  My supervisor walked over to give me a heads up that they were coming in, and took one look at me and said, "Oh, you already know."  Why you ask?  I had actually blow dried my hair, was wearing make-up, and nice clothes.  You'd think this wouldn't be so rare.

2)  Also on Wednesday, my friend Laura and I were attempting to come home from our MOPS meeting, and my car wouldn't start.  Not just not start, the key wouldn't turn.  At all.  My first reaction?  "This is my car, right?"

3)  When calling the car dealership to get the car looked at, I discovered that the service manager on the phone lived on my street, but we didn't know each other.  I said, "We're the ones with the loud German Shepherd."  "OHHHH, I know who you are!"  *doh*

4)  I have been to at least one grocery store every day this week.  Either I'm a bored semi-stay-at-home-mom, or I just am that forgetful.  I'm going with #2.

5)  The animals both have decided that it is their job to check on the baby and to hang out in the nursery during middle-of-the-night wake-ups and feedings (that, because he is sick, have been running between 3-6 a night this week, again).  I spend more time dog and cat wrangling, trying to get them out of the room when I'm done, than actually popping the pacifier in.  GAH!  Just hand me a lasso and call me Annie Oakley.

Friday 5: Most Ridiculous Searches that Landed People Here this Month

I've had some keyword doozies this month.  I can't believe some of the search terms that have led people to this site!  Now, I mean no offense if that's any of you currently reading, but I just had to share.

1)  "Longest version of happy birthday"

I have no idea what I wrote that satisfied that...or why you'd want to know?  Is there someone you really want to make squirm while you drag out the singing?

2) "I am a monster and need to change"

Honestly, I find this kind of scary.  And I also think that the search is somewhat vague.  You'd think someone would search about addiction, or personality disorders, or...I don't know.  I'm speculating.  But just a cure for monster-hood?  Mystifying.

3)  "Joke of Mother Nature (5 pics)"

I know that I wrote about a joke of mother nature.  But in complete opposition to the last search, I find this perplexingly specific.  Not 4 pictures?  Not 6 pictures?  Only 5.

4)  "People who dont look pregnant when they are"

Well, thanks!  That picture was from 26 weeks, I believe.

5)  "Man cave Penn state"

And this one just makes me sad.  Because it's all too true.  Both that I gave in and let my husband have a Penn State man cave...and that the flood destroyed it.  Mother Nature had a GREAT sense of humor on that one.  ;)
