Back to Running

I've now done two "official" runs on a treadmill, and it's a mixed bag.  At 7 weeks post-partum, I pretty much feel back to my old self, but when I try and run?  There are a few reminders that things have changed.  Obviously, my stamina is nowhere close to what it used to be.  That was a given.  I also have laughed and said that it's the first time I've run in my 30's, too, though I doubt that's the issue.

It really isn't my legs, or my breathing, or any of the normal reasons that I used to feel worn out that hit me.  It's my stomach!!!  7 minutes into my run last night, my abs clenched up and were NOT going to let go.  I understand that they were stretched out for a long time, but it's just a new experience.  I never gave a second thought to my core being strong enough before.  I had been a life-long swimmer, and frequently practiced yoga and pilates, so I don't know if I've ever had so much as a side cramp, much less this entire abdominal lock-down.  Regardless, things will continue to improve, and it will stop one day, but for now, it's the first hurdle to overcome.

Another hurdle?  What to WEAR.  Oh, sure, that outfit looks great in pictures, and that's actually one of the better ones for me to choose, but I'm more top-heavy now.  Things just don't fit.  And if I can get them on?  They aren't supportive enough.  So I am on a mission for new jogging attire.  That won't break the bank.  It's tough, ya'll!

I can't wait until the Lion can join me!  We have a jogging stroller, but you're not supposed to use it to run until 6 months because their heads bounce too much.  So, for now, here's my GORGEOUS view!

  2. Congrats on exercising. You're back into it quicker than I was! Are you saying that even with the car seat ontop of the jogging stroller that you're not suppossed to go running? Hopefully thats not the case b/c we've been taking Dean running since he was 3 months...he never seemed to mind it.

  3. I don't know about with the car seat attachment. I just know my stroller is 6 months. We've been using it to walk, though, b/c the bigger wheels go over our cruddy sidewalks better.

Wow, you look amazing Katy! I only wish my abs were as trim as yours... I am have similar issues & combined with my c-section wound, my core is pretty much shot. I went horse riding twice last weekend and ended up with a puffy and sore wound. Totally overdid it which sucks. No more exercise for the rest of the week. I so don't want to tear something! : |

  6. You look fab and I was totally uncomfy from nursing boobs til we hit 7 months and dropped to 5 feedings. now at 10 months i feel almost back to normal! i wore 2 sports bras and that seemed to help along with pumping/nursing right before running. also, our stroller says 8 months but we used it at 3 with the car seat attachment in. as long as they can hold their heads up i think they are fine. the extra support helped AM fit in it better and she was good with it!

  7. you look AMAZING! :) And I know what you mean about top heavy. I've always been part of the itty bitty titty club and now I have to wear two sportsbras or else I die. Seriously. I die...

  8. Wow, I love that you found me, we spell our names the same AND, most importantly, we both went to Ohio State! crazy! Anyway, ask your pediatrician... I started running around 11 weeks because he could hold his head up when laying, sitting and when being held, but it was in a car seat adapter. You look great and good job getting back into it so quick!!
